For families who have access to private insurance, managed care plans in Minnesota typically have good general coverage. However, families continue to be challenged by poor mental health service coverage, difficulty with prior authorization, and navigating the system. Families also have difficulty accessing public programs because of inaccurate information from county workers. Families in rural Minnesota sometimes have problems finding primary care physicians who are comfortable caring for children with complex needs. Home care is also a major concern, so Family Voices of Minnesota conducted a Family Forum on Home Care and a Home Care survey, bringing together parents from around the state to discuss staffing issues and solutions. Housed at the PACER Center, Family Voices also has a newsletter and an email listserv to share information with partners.
