NORWICH,
ENGLAND--Disability rights advocates in the Norwich area are protesting the
fact that many people cannot go to the dentists near their homes because their
offices are not accessible.
According to the Norwich Evening News, some dentists are turning away
patients because their offices are upstairs, and they have no wheelchair lifts,
elevators, or ramps.
"Disabled people already feel discriminated against," said George
Saunders, treasurer of the Norwich Access Group. "Not being able to access
services makes people like us disabled."
Under the United Kingdom's Disability Discrimination Act, business that
violate the access rights of people with disabilities could face criminal
prosecution.
