Interest in developmental disabilities

Our family moved from Indiana to Minnesota in 2000 with a goal. We wanted to find the best health care and education for our daughter with developmental disabilities. Now she is 15 years old and will be transitioning to high school and then into a life path that is unknown. I want to help make certain that she has opportunities for a career, and for some independence, and for a rewarding life as an adult. I would like other people like her to enjoy the same opportunities.

Experience in developmental disabilities

We have experienced the trials of getting our daughter through the public school system. We struggled with rigid educational ideas and attitudes about our daughter's needs. Trying not to create animosity, we worked through the IEP battles, outside specialist needs and shrinking school budgets.

My wife and I are members of Arc and PACER.

Anything else about yourself

I am a native Minnesotan, but my career to my family to other states. My daughters were born in Madison, Wisconsin and South Bend, Indiana. We were happy to settle here after 16 years of relocating.
