Interest in developmental disabilities

Although my professional involvement with persons with disabilities began in 1983, my personal involvement began many years earlier.

While in my early teens my mother became a foster parent to a child with developmental and physical disabilities. This remarkable gentleman, who was in every sense of the word, my brother, had a profound effect on my family and remained with my mother until her death ten years ago.

In addition to my personal interest in developmental disabilities, my sister has also dedicated her life to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Experience in developmental disabilities

My original career path of scientific research took a distinctive turn in 1983 towards human services. Since that time, my professional life has been spent working in various capacities supporting individuals with disabilities.

In 1991, I was provided with a unique opportunity to participate as an auditor for the Office of the Willowbrook Special Master. The Willowbrook class action litigation involved over 4,000 individuals with developmental disabilities. Since that time, I have participated in numerous reviews of class action lawsuits involving persons with disabilities. My professional experiences in working with people with developmental disabilities are quite broad, from direct care to manager of facilities to administrative.
